Release Notes: July 2017

Big news this month, we’ve released a new easier to use and faster Accounts and Taxes mapping screen, it looks like this: It might not look that different to the old screen, but there’s several important changes: A2X will now offer to automatically create generic accounts in your accounting system chart of accounts, for example we’ll make Amazon Shipping for the shipping amounts Amazon charges. You can (of course) choose any account you like, or make any new account you like, but if you’re happy with generic options, these can save you some time.

When to hire an accountant for your Amazon business

Hiring an accountant for your Amazon business can be expensive. And if you’re a startup or small business selling through the Amazon marketplace, doing it yourself can seem like a smart way to save money. But as you grow, your accounts get more complicated. You may need to switch from cash accounting to accrual accounting, and you’ll probably find it harder and harder to handle the information coming in from Amazon – their settlement data is notoriously difficult to reconcile.

Amazon Lending Has Funded 20,000 Businesses

Amazon last week promoted its Amazon Lending program with a press release announcing that it has surpassed $3 billion in loans to small businesses since the its launch in 2011. Amazon Lending provides funds to businesses that sell through Amazon marketplaces, with the loans repaid from the proceeds of products sold through Amazon. The concept is a good one; businesses gain the working capital to fund more inventory of popular products, that generates more sales, those businesses grow, and Amazon’s overall revenue grows accordingly.

Selling on Amazon? Here's how to spend less time on accounting, and more on your business

If you’re an Amazon marketplace merchant, you’ll know that selling through the platform isn’t all smooth sailing. In fact, when it comes to balancing your books, there are some serious headaches to deal with. Sales data from Seller Central is delivered in an overly complicated format, which doesn’t mesh easily with most accounting systems. This means reconciling sales numbers with the actual amounts that land in your bank account can seem nearly impossible, and cost you hours or days every month.

Amazon, accounting, and A2X

Amazon, accounting, and A2X

Why e-commerce accountants love A2X. The apparent simplicity of selling through the Amazon marketplace can be deceptive. Although the Amazon Seller Central portal provides details of each transaction in reports and file downloads, as businesses grow and sales increase, accountants and sellers start to find these reports unhelpful – to say the least. Amazon’s sales reports don’t provide a breakdown of sales tax, don’t date sales accurately month by month for accrual accounting, can’t be exported to accounting software without huge issues, and include extremely confusing fees and charges.
