The final retail products are assembled in the US and sold on from their website. Brexit Preparedness for Amazon

Reading time 5 minutes As of writing this blog, Brexit is just over three months away and there is so much confusion with the politics, it is really hard to understand what it all means to one’s business. As I am in the UK this week, it has been the perfect opportunity to “take-the-pulse” of the moment and break it down into the practical implications for our Amazon Sellers. Disclaimer: This blog is given as general information and understanding of the subject and should not be used as a substitute for competent advice.

Amazon to Turn Over Third-Party Seller Data to California Department of Tax and Fee Administration

This post is a guest post from Michael Fleming founder of Michael J Fleming & Associates. Amazon sent an email on the afternoon of October 23 2018 that stated Amazon had received a “valid and binding legal demand” from the state of California to turn over third-party seller information. This sent an immediate wave of shock and fear through the FBA community. Many sellers asked what does this mean? While many others assumed the worst, that California was coming after everyone.

Intelligent automation for the Amazon Seller

It’s a reality. Our world is becoming more automated every single day. Integrations connect different apps, plugins are able to handle large amounts of information with ease, and businesses are turning to automation for a competitive edge. At first glance, automation might seem out of reach for many Amazon sellers. What was once the domain of large organizations with deep pockets is now accessible to anyone with a laptop and a ‘can do’ attitude.

A2X asks Accountants in the UK: How can Amazon Sellers prepare for the UK’s MTD?

MTD, or Making Tax Digital, means a big change for Amazon Sellers trading in the UK, and affects all aspects of the way Sellers account for VAT to the HMRC. Despite the increasing urgency for Sellers to start their transition to compliant digital systems, there is currently very little mentioned about MTD on the UK media. When I first considered this topic for a blog, I never imagined that I’d actually be in the UK, talking to Accountants about how Amazon Sellers can prepare for this.

Amazon, sales tax and accounting for the "Marketplace Facilitator" tax transactions

It’s 2018 and if you caught the news last year, you’ll have seen that Amazon is starting to charge and collect Sales Tax on behalf of all sellers in the state of Washington. You’ll start to notice a few new transactions in A2X: MarketplaceFacilitatorTax-Shipping and MarketplaceFacilitatorTax-Principal, these will offset and ItemPrice Tax and Shipping Tax that Amazon has charged the customer, so that it results in a total of 0 to your overall settlement.

It is the course for you if you’re using Xero or QuickBooks Online to track Amazon sales, either in the US or internationally. Tips and Challenges There are many aspects of the course I respect but the biggest one has to be that Patti and Scott have learned by doing, and often the hard way, and they share these experiences throughout the course.

Here’s a few highlights and photos from the event. If you came to see us, thanks for stopping by! We had a great booth, right at the main entrance.

Next stop: Xerocon London

Xerocon London starts in just over a week and while it’ll be our first time exhibiting at Xerocon, we know there’s more in store for us than just introductions at the booth. We’ve attended Xerocon as delegates before, so we know there is something quite distinct about Xero events with a strong vibe of openness encouraging everyone to share and contribute to the community. We are looking forward to conversations with Accountants in the UK because we are interested in hearing how the role of traditional accounting is evolving with cloud services.

Amazon Lending Has Funded 20,000 Businesses

Amazon last week promoted its Amazon Lending program with a press release announcing that it has surpassed $3 billion in loans to small businesses since the its launch in 2011. Amazon Lending provides funds to businesses that sell through Amazon marketplaces, with the loans repaid from the proceeds of products sold through Amazon. The concept is a good one; businesses gain the working capital to fund more inventory of popular products, that generates more sales, those businesses grow, and Amazon’s overall revenue grows accordingly.

How to Reconcile Your Amazon Seller Statement.

If you’ve ever reviewed an A2X settlement summary, you’ll know Amazon has some very creative ways to charge Amazon sellers money - ShippingChargeback, GiftwrapChargeback, SalesTaxServiceFee - what do all these Amazon fees mean, and how do you reconcile them to the Amazon reports in the Reports > Payments section of Seller Central? Great question! In this blog post, we’re going to reconcile your Amazon reports by working through a complete example that matches the low-level transactions in the settlement report to the corresponding sections in Amazon’s settlement report.

Signing up for A2X just got easier

We’ve just released a new look signup for A2X, its now easier to get logged in with Google and connect your Amazon and Xero accounting system. And… you may also notice we’re working on some pretty big changes around here, a whole new accounting system integration is coming soon, QuickBooks.

Amazon Reserve amounts: what to do when Amazon withholds your settlement payment

In this post we want to cover two often confusing transactions you will see in your Amazon settlement files that A2X imports. The first is the Current Reserve Amount and the second is the Previous Reserve Amount Balance. Firstly, a bit of background to these transactions. Why does Amazon withhold payment? Sometimes Amazon withholds some or all of your settlement payment for various reasons. Some examples of why we have seen Amazon do this to sellers: you’re a new seller with no history, your credit card on file with Amazon is expired, or there’s a bank account validation problem in your seller account.

A2X Setup and Mapping - A real-world guide from Catching Clouds

Catching Clouds is honored to be A2X’s first guest blogger. As an accounting firm specializing in ecommerce accounting, we have dozens of clients using A2X’s services and use it for all of our Amazon clients. We LOVE it. Since we use this tool so much, A2X asked if we could give their readers some pointers on the process we use for setting up and mapping the exhaustive list of Amazon fees to Xero’s chart of accounts.

Comprehensive List of Amazon Seller Transactions

Amazon Seller Transactions and Transaction Fees As an Amazon seller it is a good idea to have a finger on the pulse of the Amazon Seller Transactions. That is not to say you have to constantly be aware of them all the time, but in order to get your cost of doing business straight, you need to know at least the basics. In this post, you will find a very comprehensive list of each transaction type.

Grouping sales by product type in A2X

Introduction In A2X we can group sales all together or we can split them by SKU or product type. Grouping by SKU is fairly obvious, by product type is a little more complicated! In this post we’re going to show you how grouping by product type works. I’d like to say upfront, product types are generally an extra-for-experts setting that not all users are going to want or need, it lets you group many different SKUs into single invoice line items for special accounting or tax treatment.

How to link multiple Amazon accounts to one Xero account in A2X

We have received a number of inquiries from users that want to link multiple Amazon accounts to one Xero account (called an ‘Organisation’ in Xero), we decided to make this step-by-step guide in order to walk you through the set up process. The example setup is as follows: Amazon Account 1 <–> A2X Account 1 <–> Xero Account (direct connection) Amazon Account 2 <–> A2X Account 2 <–> Xero Account (shared access)

A2X is going to Xerocon in Denver next month!

If you’re an avid Xero user like us, you may already know about Xerocon, happening in Denver next month. You’ll hear from Xero about upcoming product plans, accounting experts on best practices for your own business reporting and meet developers of all the add-ons you use, including A2X!

Accounting for your Amazon FBA Inventory with A2X

In this post we’re going to talk about FBA inventory and Xero. You may have recently seen Xero announced the ability to track inventory items directly within Xero. A2X has limited ability to take advantage of these new features by using the group by product invoice setting. One of our users very kindly made a screencast showing how you can set up the group by product option in A2X, Amazon, and Xero to take advantage of the new inventory features.
