About the Role

We’re looking for an experienced Software Engineer to join one of our product engineering teams.

This is a hands-on role with broad technical scope. You’ll work across the full lifecycle of our software: understanding customer problems, designing solutions, building frontend and backend functionality, working with databases and cloud infrastructure, deploying changes, monitoring them in production, and responding when something goes wrong.

A2X engineers are trusted with problems, not just tickets. We expect you to be comfortable taking a piece of work that may initially be ambiguous, asking the right questions, working with Product and other engineers to determine the best approach, and independently moving it through to a reliable production outcome.

You don’t need previous ecommerce or accounting experience. What matters more is strong engineering judgment, curiosity, an ability to learn complex domains, and a genuine interest in understanding why you’re building something rather than only how to build it.

Because our teams collaborate closely during the working day, we’re looking for someone whose working hours have strong overlap with North American time zones.

What You’ll Do

• Work closely with Product to understand customer problems, challenge assumptions, explore trade-offs, and shape practical solutions.
• Own meaningful product features and technical improvements from discovery and design through implementation, rollout, and operation in production.
• Break complex or ambiguous work into clear technical approaches and incremental milestones.
• Contribute to architectural decisions, technical documentation, and shared engineering standards.
• Work across our stack, from backend services and our frontend UI to databases, cloud infrastructure, and reliability, depending on what the problem requires.
• Build and evolve systems that process large volumes of ecommerce and financial data accurately and reliably.
• Design APIs, data models, asynchronous workflows, integrations, and other components of distributed production systems.
• Write well-tested, maintainable code and thoughtfully review the work of other engineers.
• Take responsibility for the reliability and operational health of the software you ship, including monitoring, debugging, and incident response.
• Use modern development and AI-assisted engineering tools to increase your leverage while applying strong engineering judgment to everything you ship.
• Share knowledge, give constructive feedback, and help make the engineers around you more effective.

Our systems have evolved over many years and continue to evolve. We don’t expect you to arrive knowing every technology we use, and we’re much more interested in strong engineering fundamentals and your ability to learn than matching every item on a checklist.

What We’re Looking For

• 5+ years of professional software development experience, or equivalent depth of experience
• Strong software engineering experience building and operating production applications
• Broad experience across the stack, including backend, frontend, databases, and cloud infrastructure. Experience with Java is valuable, but strong experience with another modern backend language is also relevant
• Solid engineering fundamentals across APIs, data modelling, relational databases, distributed systems, testing, and production reliability
• The ability to take an ambiguous problem, work through the trade-offs, and independently turn it into a reliable production solution
• Strong problem-solving skills and engineering judgment, including a systematic approach to debugging and knowing when to keep things simple
• A product mindset. You care about understanding the customer and business problem, not just implementing technical requirements
• Clear communication, curiosity, and a collaborative, low-ego approach to working with Engineering, Product, and Customer Success
